Mechanical Engineer:

This position is for non-smokers only.

U.S. Citizenship strongly preferred

The Company:

Temple Allen Industries is a fast-paced technology firm based in Rockville, MD, just outside of Washington D.C. While still a small company, we have built a prestigious client list of aerospace industry giants, including Boeing, Airbus, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, the US Navy, and the US Air Force. We believe in delivering complete solutions to our clients rather than just a product. Thus, we constantly seek projects that drive R&D to expand the capabilities of our current generation EMMA Systems while also exploring the future applications of the core technology.

Temple Allen’s EMMA (Easily Manipulated Mechanical Arm) deploys a variety of surface preparation tools for commercial and military aircraft production lines and maintenance operations. EMMA’s innovative and ergonomic technology enables operators to perform surface preparation tasks faster while eliminating health risks such as vibration, poor work postures, and dust exposure.

Given the size of the firm, you will be working closely with everyone, so your reliability and communications skills are critical. Prior knowledge of our EMMA technology is not expected, so we are looking for candidates who are quick learners. Engineers who excel at Temple Allen are self-driven and take on responsibility to expand their role with limited oversight, structure, or direction, and can laugh off the daily frustrations that are an inevitable part of any successful company. All positions are performance-based and work is not 9-5; syccessful candidates should be ready for 50-hour weeks with some weekend work as necessary.

Responsibilities:

Basic Qualifications:

Preferred Skills and Expertise:

Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience. Because EMMA technology and its applications are not covered in academic curricula, we spend a significant amount of time and resources training new engineers. Because of our investment in you, and because we are still a small company, we cannot offer the same starting salary that larger companies might offer. However, we do offer a more rapid review process (first review in 90 days, second review at 6 months), greater opportunities to travel and work at client facilities, hands-on experience, and a large amount of responsibility starting on your first day.

We believe in delivering complete solutions to our clients rather than just a product. Thus, we constantly seek projects that drive R&D to expand the capabilities of our current systems while also exploring the future applications of the core technology.

Temple Allen’s EMMA™ (Easily Manipulated Mechanical Arm) deploys a variety of surface preparation tools for commercial and military aircraft production lines and maintenance operations. EMMA’s innovative and ergonomic technology enables operators to perform surface preparation tasks faster while eliminating health risks such as vibration, poor work postures, and dust exposure.

Given the size of the firm, you will be working closely with everyone, so your reliability and communication skills are critical. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is dependable, responsible, energetic, and requires minimal oversight. Given the startup environment, you will be working closely with everyone, so your personality, ability to be a team player, and overall fit are critical. Preference will be given to candidates with a mechanical engineering background or degree, but this is not a requirement for the position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design parts and modules for EMMA systems with guidance from senior engineers
  2. Assist technicians with manufacturing and assembly – note that the goal is not to train you as a great machinist, but for you to develop a complete understanding of our manufacturing capabilities, the EMMA technology, and its various deployments
  3. Draft engineering drawings using CAD software
  4. Travel with senior engineers to client facilities to perform training, preventative maintenance, installations, and demonstrations
  5. Equipment assembly
  6. Facility maintenance and upgrades

  5. Machine shop experience (mill, lathe, band saw, and drill press)

Note that this is NOT an electronics or IT position, as our products are 100% pneumatic.

Compensation: Commensurate with skills and experience.
